Hello!
I just introduced a rooster to my silkie girls and I am wondering if the egg is fertilized?

I also have a question about feeding silkies, my girls are 6 months old and they have just started laying, should I be giving them laying food or grower and iyster shells?

How long are you supposed to feed silkie chicks starter?

Thanks!!!

If you want to use up your chick starter and just start putting out oyster shell you can. Or you can start feeding them layer. It's kind of up to you. Either way would be fine.

Okay, so I am collecting eggs, hoping to get a bunch and pop them into the incubator!

I believe layer feed is not good to feed roosters (for a long time anyway), so if your rooster is housed with your hens you probably should feed grower and have the oyster shells in a different feeder/container.

You should probably wait on that for a couple months. Pullets lay small eggs when they first start. They will get larger given some time. The first small eggs are probably not the best to incubate. The chicks would have to be smaller to fit in the egg.

Hello!
I've hatched pullet eggs in the past, the chicks where fine, grew like weeds!! I do wait till they have laid for atleast a week or so.
