Humble went broody last month and a baby hatched! She was sitting on 25 eggs and I candled them today. 10 of them looked ready to hatch so I gave them back to her, and I put a couple in the incubator. One of them looked odd though. There is no air sac and I wanted to know if any development is going on. And could you also identify Humble's breed? I forgot what she was for I got her 2 years ago.

How long has she been sitting on those? I don't see any veins in that egg, which you should be able to see easily in a week, and yes, there should be an air cell at the large end. I see you took some of those. That's awesome as she'd never hatch all those in that picture. :)

As for breed, maybe try get a couple of pictures of her and make a post in the https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/ forum.

Should I put the egg in the incubator to see if it grows?

With your hen trying to cover that many eggs it usually doesn't turn out well. You should only ever let them sit on as many eggs as your hen can cover easily. With too many the eggs on outside are not getting incubated. As hen moves turns eggs those unincubated eggs get moved under her and those that are good get moved to outside. This causes viable growing egg that was moved to outside to chill and die. By hatch time that doesn't leave many eggs viable to hatch successfully.

i've had a couple eggs like that before that ended up being total duds. no air cell forming is usually the telltale that it's not viable. but hey, it doesn't hurt to leave it going a bit longer just to be absolutely certain before chucking it.

My eyes got big when I saw all those eggs, but then the OP said they "took a few" for the incubator and breathed a little sigh that hopefully that meant the hen was covering all her eggs now.

Some eggs weren't fertilized so we did a test to see if they were still good to eat. 10 looked like they were about to hatch so I gave them back to Humble. Is 10 too much? I put 16, including the one with no air sac, in the incubator. The picture I uploaded to this forum is the 10 eggs she's sitting on right now.

OH, so she's not actually sitting on any, she's about to pull those 10 eggs under her?

I have silkies so I can't say for sure for your hen, but mine can do about a dozen. It's relative though as the silkie hens are smaller but so are their eggs.

Hens pull all their feathers out on their underside so their heat is more directly on the eggs. Then they fluff up and spread their wings a little to keep that heat in. Any eggs outside of that, aren't getting much if anything.

Yes, she's not sitting on any, she's just going to raise the chicks when they hatch. I usually buy chicks from tractor supply and last month I started incubating eggs, so this is my first time having a broody hen and chicks hatching under her.

As I said before she had 25 eggs under her and covered most of them. I also noticed that she did not have any feathers on her underside, I already knew what it meant =)
