Is this enough ventilation?

You can't ever have too much security! Any decent predator with teeth will get through plastic. Some can open lids, like the top of your nest boxes, and raccoons may show up, and they are very good at latches.

We did notice the nest box definitely needs a latch on the lid, Folly. Good point! We're going to install that. And yes, June. The dogs are patrolling around the clock. They refuse to sleep inside at night. These particular breeds are bred as guard dogs, and they do that very well. We know immediately if anything is around. So we will also get a different latch for the one window that a predator with hands can't get into. Those are the next things on the list in addition to vent covers.

Our dogs--American Bulldog and German Shepherd have killed rabbits, squirrels, cats and even a coyote. I don't think a coon would dare set foot on our property. Those dogs are excellent hunters and watch dogs who take their job seriously.
My uncle had a rotweiler with 3 legs due to a coon attack. I wouldn't underestimate a racoon.

I just looked for vent covers as well as louvers. I measured the window, and it's 17" by 6" high. I can't find any vent covers that long! Can I just use a double covering of hardware cloth? Will that keep the rain out? There are so many things that keep coming up! Soon, I've heard raccoons are vicious creatures. I'm not surprised it injured a Rott that badly. I'm just glad we haven't had any around here that I've seen.

Oh my gosh! Thank you! It's the right size too! I just bookmarked it. It's not terribly expensive either. So this will keep the rain out? I'm really thrilled, as I couldn't find anything after searching for half an hour.

So cool! We're going to Lowe's soon to check it out. The door (unfortunately) will be fact west, where most of our wind comes from. Might have to use it for the door instead of the window!
