It’s day 3 of lethargic Cujo and I’m beginning to wonder if she’s caught fowl pox. She is 3 years old and most likely unvaccinated. She’s not inclined to do much other than lay under the bush all day, hardly even stepping over a 2” pvc pipe in her way. She will eat if you bring it to her, pooping normally, etc. None of the others are showing any symptoms. What do you all think?

Her pupils look a bit overly constricted to me. Can you check her eyes and make sure her pupils respond to light normally and that she can track the movement of things? Does she have any other symptoms? There might be a lesion on the left side of her comb but the photo is too blurry to make it out clearly... Is that why you are thinking fowl pox?

Eyes are normal, she was just in some direct sunlight a moment before. Just went out to check to be sure lol. The lesion on the side appears to be a pox scab, no open wound I can see. No other symptoms, just very lethargic and not a big appetite

I don't really see anything to indicate Fowl Pox at this time. I see a small area on the comb that may be healing from previous injury.

She's had issues in the past?
Possibly she's starting to have a few problems with production. See if you can get a fecal float to rule out worms as part of her lethargy.

See that her crop is emptying overnight and look for lice/mites.

When was her last egg?

Is she currently laying eggs? Any lumps in her belly area or does it feel like a water balloon?

If lethargy is her only symptom that's not much to go on and I'd give her a little extra TLC for a week and then reassess. Hopefully she's just a little under the weather from a cold or something, but at 3 yrs old it could be the start of an "old age" disease.

I will give a fecal float a try 👍 none of the flock are laying atm due to the cold weather. They are such babies! XD she has never had laying issues in the past besides nasty broodiness

No eggs atm, the whole flock is on their winter break of sorts. I’ll give her belly a feel in the morning. TLC is the plan right now; electrolytes, watermelon, and time to be alone
