It sounds like you have a good set up and diet for your chickens.
I had a hen get grabbed by a red fox a few years ago and our australien shepherd Momo, chased the fox untill to escape him the fox had to drop the chicken my daughter and i searched the woods and found her. Her name was precious. She had a open gash across her back that was 2 inches long, and open gaping woond that was hard to look at. We took her to our vet, he looked at her and said "when this kind of thing happened back on the farm we put the potatoes on to boil" he also told us that chicken skin is thin and will not hold stitches. needless to say, we took her home an did what we could for her. I put her in one of our rabbit hutches, put a big gob of corona covering the wound every day. She was a sticky mess, as her body heat melted the salve and it ran down her side. But... lo and behold it worked. A month later after the woond was hidden by new feathers i put her back with the flock. 6 months later i examined the site of the injury and could not find it. I dont know what products you have there but like snow5164 says, any thick salve with antibactierial properties should work. Keep it covered with it. Good Luck! And let us know how this turns out as i will keep watching this post for updates.

Oh my gosh I would have not handled that situation very good. I’m so glad she healed up nicely! It makes me sad that vets seem to dismiss chickens when it comes to vet care. They are such sweet little things, just because they are a “food” to most doesn’t mean they should just be put down when they are hurt. My husband wants to put her down and I was like no way, she’s the kids pet I’m going to give her the best chance to help her. It’s not even bad enough to consider putting her down anyway :(
I will make sure to update on how we go with her. She’s such a sweetheart, this is is having a cuddle after treatment yesterday.

Thank you, I just feel so bad for her. Yep it’s exactly like high school. Breaks my heart lol do you think putting a mirror in with her while she’s away from the other chickens might make her feel a little better?
Can't you pen her next to the rest or within sight? Taking her totally away will make stuff much worse.

Ive got her right next to the coop, I just walked out before to go check her wound and one of the other hens has actually made a dust bath right next to her pen laying in the sun and she was standing next to her on the opposite side in the pen :) so I’m waiting until she moves along to check on her. I’m definitely worried about how things will go once they get back together again.
