3 or 4 of my 11 are laying now and others are squatting and getting close. I wasnt able to see who laid this but the exterior is strong enough that it bounced without breaking when I dropped it on the ground but theres no shell just a rubbery exterior. Is this just a very early first egg or something to be more worried about? My others that are already laying are laying completely normal smallish pullet eggs aside from this one. Thanks all!

Nothing to worry about 🙂
It is not uncommon for a pullet to lay a shell less egg or two when she first starts laying eggs. A couple of my hens will also lay a shell less eggs in the spring when they first start laying again after their winter break.

Some new layers will lay a shelless egg or two when they start laying. Just make sure there's a dish of oyster shell for them. The best ones are if you get a fairy egg. Those are tiny little eggs with shells, but so cute. They may lay a couple of those too. I get one or two from a hen after moulting.

Ive gotten a few shell ON fairy eggs which were very cute haha! and yes I give them free choice grubbly farms calcium and oyster shell supplement. I have a pvc pipe feeder for that and another one for grit that they always have access to. Thanks again all!

Have you seen the article about eggs? It's really neat! ((And of course I went to hyperlink it and lost my copy....hang on))
Yes! But I read it last year when I first joined and got the chickens and completely forgot it existed haha! I'll havr to go give myself a refresher!
