No, it's not stupid. These are poultry lice. They can bite you, but they can't infect you, and vice versa.

Trash it and get permethrin if you want to rid lice.

Perhaps, but, this is from the manufacturer. I’m still researching, but, of the ones that do recommend using it, they say 10%..

I'm not sure I understand your point. Do you understand that 10% way too strong? We're talking about using a final dilution 0.5% here.

Yes..this is the problem with finding older material..sorry..I deleted one full of old stuff..the reason I said the original post was a stronger concentration than necessary is that it’s in a ready to use spray bottle..not to be diluted, that was my only point. I’m sure it would work, but why use five times the recommended dose for chickens just because it’s the minimum dose that works for horses?

They have a recommendation or at least a “plug” for this from Gail Damerow, author of many books on chickens and their health. As I understand it, potassium sorbate interferes with the bugs’ reproduction. It won’t “kill them dead”.. It depends on the severity of your problem, but, personally, I think a highly toxic to bees and cats and other animals chemical like permethrin should be your last resort rather than your first. Permethrin strips could be applied to the bottom or sides of your roosts to kill traveling bugs, you can get tanglefoot and put some underneath your roosts which will trap any bugs, this way you can organically both monitor and trap them. I have never had to resort to these chemicals, but I live in single digit humidity for most of the year..humans practically are dust bathed here! My yard and coop have always been organic. If you do have to use permethrin, pay attention to current recommendations for minimum concentrations that will both be effective and safe.

I highly recommend you spend some time learning things yourself before you continue to offer wrong advice to others. You are not helping anyone with the confusion. You continue to post flat out wrong I do then delete it. Just stop, learn first then try to help others.

Will the spray will work then or not? Online it has 4.5 stars. I don't want to spray my birds with chemicals. That will be my last resort if nothing else works. The bird that does have lice never comes into contact with the others. The coops and runs are in an area thats fenced in. He roams everywhere except there. The other birds show no signs of lice. I can't find anything on them. I've been trying to find something to put sand/dirt in for them to take a better dust bath in. I can't find anything. What should I use? Will dust bathing help to get rid of the lice?
