Is this Marek? Please help!

Thank you for the tips regarding brewer's yeast :-D

As for the eye, it wasn't like that when I got her last year (she was about or just under 1 year old then) so i'm quite positive that it wasn't a defect from birth..

in case they have ocular Marek's, does anyone know how long do they have left to live..?

They are still eating and drinking but starting to have diarrhea since yesterday. Is there any remedy for diarrhea? Thank you!!

Several members of BYC have Mareks birds in their flocks, some of which have just the ocular form, and they can live fairly food lives as long as they don't develop tumors elsewhere. Some birds with Mareks can suffer from wasting, and most are less immune to common diseases.

I just recently lost my Wyandotte hen suddenly overnight. She exhibited lethargy the night before and then she died overnight. I took her to UC Davis for a necropsy and the preliminary reports say Marek's disease. I hope my other birds will be ok. I will clean the coop and try my best so that it doesn't spread to my other birds.

Does it wet where you live during this time of the year? The running wet poop tend to be coccidiosis.

Sorry for your loss. Did your hen seem to suffer from paralysis of a leg, wing, or her neck? Mareks is spread in the dander and dust, so it is impossible to clean for it. It can last in the environment for 7 years of more. I hope your other chickens stay well.

I've had so many waste away that were Marek's exposed and I'm working on a theory that the wasting is because they are immune suppressed and their wasting is caused by some sub clinical bacterial illness or cocci . I have not gotten very far, but I have treated my skinny chickens and had them put on weight and look healthier over the 1 or 2 months following treatment . So I'll continue to treat skinny, unthrifty wasting-looking chickens and see where is leads me.Basically, since I have nothing to lose, I treat for worms, then cocci, ecoli, clostridium perf., I guess I'm trying to get away from "aw, just wasting from Marek's, nothing you can do", to "hmmm, maybe if we approach wasting from a different direction".
