I have a broody cochin mix bantam hen, and she has been setting on 4 eggs and they're suppost to hatch next week. Okay so today a blue cochin "Bluebell" went broody and was setting on 6 egg so I moved her to the hutch were the other hen was but Bluebell didn't stay on the nest and it was too dark to take her back to the coop, so I stuck the eggs under the white cochin hen. My question is: Will it be mean if I take the chicks that are going to hatch this week, that way the white cochin hen will keep setting on the other eggs then when they hatch she can have thoughs chicks? I also have 2 other boodies in a different hutch and they are both setting on about 12 or 14 eggs each and thoughs will hatch some time at the first of next month I could always give her some of their chicks if I need to. I need some advice please. Thanks so much!

I don't think it's mean. I think it's smart. Lots of chicks are raised in brooders and do just fine. And she'll still probably get some from her other eggs anyway.

Does your broody eat and drink? I have some that do when they are sitting, but i also have some that don't. If your hen is one of the ones that doesn't get up to eat or drink much, she might get worn out if she is sitting too long. How long has she been sitting so far?

Okay, good! Yes, my broody hen eats and drinks, she gets up in the morning and get a bite to eat and goes right back to the nest. She has been setting for about 2 and a half weeks. ( 15 days. )
If she hatches the other eggs out they'll hatch April 14th.
