Crowing
I have 4 Light Sussex hens about a year old. A couple of them have had slightly poopy bottoms since being let out to free range about a month ago. droppings are mostly normal but sometimes quite wet.
Yesterday and noticed one has an area of missing feathers below vent and the skin looks inflamed. I couldn't see any sign of mites on her. I checked the roost for red mites a couple of hours after they went to bed last night and didn't see any there either (Wiped roost with white paper).
Today I have given them all a thorough check and bathed them to clean bottoms. They have all informed me that they are not ducks and the only water they want is to drink. 1 of them has "dirt" around base of feathers (not the one with feather loss).
They are all acting normally. Eating well, growers pellets with oyster shell separate. small amount of scratch or sunflower seeds when they come back to the coop. only change in diet is the worms and other things they find free ranging. Egg laying is normal for them.
I have been out today to get something to treat mites. I was able to get diatomaceous earth and ivemectin spot on for pigeons. I can't seem to get permethrin here.
Is this mites?
How should I treat it?
What can I do to prevent poopy bottoms?
I'll post pictures off my phone in a minuet.
Thanks in advance for your help.
