You can try a saddle. Some birds do well in them, some don't. If your roo is also a year old then he may calm down some with time, but also may not. If he's too rough on the hens I'd not keep him, I'd get a different one. Some roo's are better than others. I don't keep roo's that hurt hens. Or you can separate him for a while, let him mature a bit more, give the girls a break, try again later.
