My Buff Orpington who is coming up on a year old (she’s around 10 months) has lost some feathers on the back of her neck, it looks like porcupine needles and she is normally very fluffy! She’s the only one who is looking like this. I don’t think any of my hens have gone through moulting yet so I’m not sure what it looks like. I am hoping it’s not something more serious!
Here’s a picture of how her neck used to look-

My beautiful QueenB Black Sex Link never molted before this year (she's four years old, so it's odd she never molted). There's no way any hen or rooster would ever mess with her (she even survived a Husky attack). Her molting looked like your Buff Orpington's--some of the feathers fell out around her neck and a bit on her back. They grew back fairly quickly, although she looked a little scruffy for a while

From what i can tell this is for sure molting! all birds go through this and it is nothing to worry about! the feathers should start to come through the "porcupine needle" looking shoots! if she is acting weird then something may be wrong but from the pictures she looks like a happy, healthy bird !
