So my phantom pea hen showed up ( guessing she is an India Blue..pix on my phone) lovely healthy looking gal that mysteriously showed up at my home within city limits approximately 2 weeks ago.. didn't seem really frightened of people and definitely not scared of my chickens.. she then left my premises and was gone for two weeks.. last night she showed back up again and came to me when I shook a cup of chicken feed/scratch.. she came to me and ate a bit with chickens who of course hogged most of the food. again she looks healthy and clean and does not appear "wild" after the chickens got their fill, they roamed up the hillside in my back yard and all slumbered out preeening.. the pea hen followed them and attempted to hunker down and began picking at herself until my teeny tiny little old (11 yo) bantam rooster became disgruntled with this stranger and in his teeny tiny way attacked her and shooed her away.. she then walked down several acres of property and ventured across a highway and was spotted in a friends yard. If indeed she was dumped how typical would it be for her to roam very far. She has eaten at my place twice but two weeks have lapsed between visits. Since she does not seem wild and appears to be comfortable around people and other birds I am confused where she is roaming too. Since I live in "town" (and so you know chickens are just off my property in the country) noone within quite a distance has peacocks. From what I read typical free range don't necessarily venture far if they are being fed.. noone else I know is feeding her unless she is eating from bird feeders. I would invest in some game bird/peacock food but don't want to waste the expense especially not knowing if/when she will return.
