Is this normal chick behavior?

This is exactly why I pull up a chair and watch the girls in the pen when they are first let out. It is the most entertaining thing I've ever seen. No one is nasty, but the challenging goes on as they pass each other for about 20 minutes! I haven't been able to determine the pecking order yet at 9 1/2 weeks.
Each day a different girl seems triumphant, at least in her mind.
 
That is why we say that chickens have a pecking order...they literally peck each other!

As time goes on you will be able to tell who the top chickens are in the pecking order and the ones on the bottom by appearance. The top ones will have awesome feathers, while the ones on the bottom will be missing feathers around their head. (At least that's what mine do who don't have a rooster in the pen.)
