So when my cockerel is excited, the tips of his comb turn purple. Exited times are treat time and when he is looking for a lady. Is that normal for a comb to do that?

When he's not excited, it's the normal red.

Roosters often can be seen with that type of coloration. Sometimes they develop the coloration during hot/humid weather, but also, can develop the pigment when their agitated, or excited. Nothing to be really concerned about.

Thanks for replying, and what a relief. I had searched the forum, but found things suggesting frostbite (haven't had freezing temps yet) to heart and liver problems. Yikes! It felt like symptom checking in google to find out that your paper cut is going to kill you.

Sometimes it's just less stressful to ask those that have more experience.

Frostbite would be more on the tips and would be rather black, and wouldn't subside when he's not excited.

Conditions causing cyanosis of the comb, and it would be much more emphasized, to the point the whole comb would look dark, and in such a case, there would likely be other symptoms.

I had a female chicken and her cone on top turned purple! she died after... in my arms... :(
purple cone means the loss of air! the bird is loosing air!!
white cone means the loss of blood! the bird has mites and mites suck there blood.
