I have a RIR that I've been waiting for a week or so to finally start laying. Today i found this. My other chickens laid normal looking eggs from the start. Do you think this is a first time egg or could one of my other girls laid it?

It's very thin, brittle, and has what looks like a second egg forming off one end.

I think it's common for the first few eggs to be weird or small, or incomplete. She is just getting her egg factory in gear, some need more practice than others, but I bet she'll get it right sometime soon!

It wouldn't be normal for a first egg, no. First eggs tend to be very small but perfect, and are called "pullet eggs."

That being said, don't panic. I would guess it was laid by one of your other hens. Sometimes you get a weird egg like this--it's just a glitch in the system. Keep an eye on them, but they should be just fine.
