These are the best pictures I could get of his comb. There are these little black spots on it, and I cant seem to get it to go away? We live in Southern Alabama, so I'm 99% positive it isnt frostbite, and I've never seen any of the hens picking at him so I dont think its that either... Anyone know what this is?

sometimes it can be from bites... fly, mites etc. or pecks at night when you dont see them. for me i would think frostbite but i am further north. handsome fellow!!

Thank you! I do love him, even though he is way more "Roo-ish" than I would like him to be. I have 10x more pictures of him than I do any of my hens! Lol He is just so photogenic!

I use sevendust in the coops, and they are free-range during the day, so I shouldnt have to worry too much about mites right?? Flys, maybe...

i think its definately frostbite...I have a barred rock and over the winter i saw some spots get chalky white..and those same spots are black now...just like yours.

OK... Well that stinks, but I guess we did have a few days of below freezing.. So its possible. Do I have to do anything to treat it??

That just looks like a couple of little scabs to me... maybe he hit it on something? You don't have to do anything for it, and it should just go away on its own in a few days. BTW what a handsome healthy fella! Beautiful roo!

I think it is from pecking from other birds (probably roos.) All three of my roos have these on their combs or wattles and I have seen it happen several times. I have even seen the young pullets peck them thinking either they are food or very sexy! The roos ignore the pullets until they stop cheeping. JMHO

He's a tough looking roo! I doubt it's frostbite. We made it all winter with none even as cold as it was here, however my roo has had the same thing from hens and guineas. Guineas it's fighting but one of my roos would just sit and take it from the girls. It didn't appear to be aggressive just sort of an inquisitive but pretty hard peck now and then.
