Day 20 and heard a pip. Looked under mom (she had egg halfway out which is why I think I could hear) and saw this. Is this normal?

Checked egg this morning and it hasn’t progressed at all and area is looking dried up. I can see it’s breathing, but isn’t doing much more.

It often takes a while after that pip to absorb the yolk sac. I would let the hen take care of her eggs without interfering.

Can you moisten the visible membrane with coconut oil? Do you have an incubator you can put the egg in so you can monitor?
I don’t have either. These are from a broody hen. She pooped in her brood box and wasn’t on her 3 eggs this morning so I saw the egg.

I read maybe use Vaseline? I have Vaseline on hand.

Sure, Vaseline works. My broody crushed two eggs that pipped 😥 that's why I mentioned putting it in an incubator. Otherwise I would leave it under her, but keep checking it if you can.

Found it yesterday around 2pm and heard a pip then. May have pipped earlier?

I just applied Vaseline all over the exposed membrane, but not on chick. Chick is moving and egg is warm. Not making any noise though.
