Hey everyone,

I recently got 3chickens at point of lay(5 weeks ago). One of them started laying pretty much straight away while the second was not much after and the third has just started in the last week...

To my point….

My white chicken has laid small eggs since the start. I thought she may lay bigger ones as the weeks go on but not yet. She is smaller in frame but not hugely so.

Is this normal? Is it a colour thing? Is there anything I can do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Whitney :)

Egg size is determined largely by breed/selective breeding. As a chicken gets older the egg size typically increases. Even within a single breed there is variation on egg size and size of the hen will impact the size of the egg. The person I got my my original hatching eggs from had a single hen that laid small/medium sized eggs all her live and she was a large fowl bird, just a fluke.

What breeds are your hens?

This is interesting..Maybe it is just her?? The size although small, is consistent..

They are Isa Browns. My other two are a little bigger in size and they lay x large size eggs. The quality of Miss White is still good though

Miss white isn't in reference to her feather color is it? ISA browns should all look identical, brown with white feathers underneath and at the tail.
