When my breeding pair of ducks are"doing their thang" my old monarch decides he wants to join in sometimes. He is an old guy around 15 years old.

I asked about it before, and i got the response that he was trying to knock my other drake off. ( i only have 2 drakes[mallard and domestic bibbed mallard] and one female[ the buff on bottom] )

Now, the question is:
Is it just the mood , do i have a gay duck, or is the poor old guy just looking for attention, you tell me!

My ducks (male and female) do that sometimes, it seems the interested female makes "welcoming" noises and everybody sort of descends -either trying to woo her or get the other guys out of the way. It's just ducky behavior -I've seen it in the large groups at public ponds, too.

And hey, is the monarch a Magpie? He looks so much like my duckies!

As soon as she gets in the pool he goes after her. SHe has 6 eggs in a nest ( this is her first time) so she is in there in the morning and out bugg hunting during part of the day

I believe it is completely normal. Ever watch the young cockerels in the coop? Once one "grabs" a hen, every cockerel in the pen is trying to get on.

I would suggest getting another duck hen or two. That way, there is enough "love" to go around.
