Is this normal rooster behavior?

I got an Ameraucana rooster last week and he is the coolest bird I've ever had. He is sweet as sugar and falls asleep in my arms. But he does do one really strange thing and I'm not sure if it's something roosters normally do or not.

When I'm out in the yard I will let my hens out of their run so that they can roam around and graze. While they are doing that I walk around with the Roo in my arms. (He lost his roaming privileges when he tried to run out into the road and my beagle had to herd him back to his run) While I walk around with him cradled on my hip he starts crowing. Is this normal behavior or do I have a quirky rooster?

The crowing is normal rooster. The sweetness isn't. He sounds wonderful.

Yes, it's normal. It just means he's super comfortable with you.

He sure does sound fantastic, doesn't he? His sweetness isn't normal, it's phenomenal and wonderful in my book. And I'm with you, let's hope he's a fantastic flock water and a good rooster to his girls.

Okeydoke, it scared me to death when he started crowing on my hip. At first I had thought that I pinched his wing or something, then he looked at me and ba-koked then crowed again, lol.
I really am Blessed that I got him, as soon as I walked out to the feed store's pen my eyes fell on him and I thought. "Mine." My fiance and mom tried to sell me on a Silkie rooster that was quite a handsome fellow himself, but Gandalf was the only one I wanted. Hehee

Cool beans! The first night I got him I took him inside and he settled down in my lap and laid his neck on my arm then fell asleep. My mom, who at one point had nearly a hundred chickens, said that none of her roosters had ever been that tame.
I hope so too, he and the RIRs should make some beautiful and nice chicks. *fingers crossed*

I think he's seven months old.

I bought him from a local feed store.

Hopefully he will stay sweet, he loves to be petted. He'll walk up and stare and grumble at us until we pick him up. Then he starts yawning and falling asleep.

it's completely normal, they crow when ever they feel like it, but how sweet he is.. ur just lucky. my roosters nothing close to sweet, he will charge at me and peck me!
