LOL vivid picture, how adorable!Ah ha ha. I had a funny episode today with an introduction. I opened the broader because my turkeys and chick's are about a month old and mostly feathered and I figured it would be nice for them to get out and explore... well a few came and pecked right around the broader door, but one turkey set off into the yard warbling and then he/she spotted the adult chickens and took off after them warbling all the way. Just walked right into the crowd of them which surprised my adult chickens to bits they all stopped and gave it the im checking you out sideways stare. And then the adults went back to pecking at the woods line and the turkey kept walking up to one or another warbling and the adults would look at it weird and wander away poor lonely poult with nobody to play with. One chick did get pecked by a Cockerel I got at the beginning of march. When I introduce chick's I put them outside once they are feathered, and they have their own spot in the coop at night and after a few days shut in the coop I let them out. I have a 120sq ft coop and 4 acres of them to free range so they just avoid each other for a while. As time passes they eventually integrate into one large flock, sometimes the little guys get pecked like when they got get who eats first, but soon they learn and there is no longer any issue.
The older hens really just ignore the babies until the babies get attitude. The white hen by the babies I'm the bottom by itself is the one who will peck themI had/have a similar situation. I adopted 3, 2 yr old hens and they bully my 10 princesses. It's getting better, they don't draw blood. They are sharing feed from my hand and they didn't do that before. Every day they are a little kinder. However, the big 3, are not laying eggs like they were at their old home. I have had them for a month.
Yes my Rhode Island Red before (who recently died) was that way she got separated and once she was back she got her attitude againWell its her territory adventualy once she's back in there she still be territorial and still peck.(Possibly)
I have one hen like that except she doesn't push the others around too much...she's just super loud. This is herI have a bossy hen, she is one of my favorites she pushes every one around and shows she is top hen! I LOVE HER!
Ok I will. They have a huge 8x8 inside coop and a huge outside coop the same size. Plus a huge backyard to run around in when I'm home. Several things of food tooI had some of the same concerns. Mine that were a couple of week older did the same thing. I made sure there was food in the coop and run and that there was room for them to get away. I can gladly say that they have been chilling out with each other for a week or so now and all seem to be getting along. Give it some time and things seem to take care of themselves.
Ok good I hope that works with mine. They pretty much ignore each other except for my gold one named fluffy she likes to run back and forth between the two little ones and the group of the big ones. They even behave in one group all together until the one little one decides to jump and my white hen. Here's a picture of fluffys first time seeing the little ones! She couldn't figure out what they wereAh ha ha. I had a funny episode today with an introduction.
