Hard to say for sure. Likely something else red though. You can rule out anything silver based "barred, columbian, silver laced, etc" for his mother otherwise he'd be white or barred.

I guess my concern is, if I put him with the leghorns, will his daughters be worse layers than their moms?

Yes, they won't lay as much as the pure Leghorns do. Any Leghorn cross will lay less than their pure Leghorn parents. Breed them to another Leghorn if your primary focus is egg production.

His shanks are actually white. Which is a dominant trait over yellow. So one parent had to have white shanks.
