Is this poo normal? Could this be pee???

With posts like this, I'm sure glad this board isn't about humans.:D

Yup, me too.

One of the chickens were on a plastic chair and released a watery load and poo. At first I thought this could be some strange yellow poo. (Maybe it is.) Is this poo or just pee and poo together? The white part is loose too. Don't know what to think.
That poop is *not* normal. It would be best to get a baseline weight on him, put him in a crate on towels with fresh water and a non-layer feed because layer feed has too much calcium for roosters. What worries me about the poop is the amount of white, which could be a sign of dehydration or kidneys working overtime. It's also too yellow, which could mean liver or bacteria. If he continues pooping like that you will have to think about how to treat him. Can you post a body shot of him? -Kathy

Sorry... don't know which chicken it was... as I have 100s. Here is a pic of them in general. The flock is sick. Here is a picture of a few of them.

My farm worker bought Norfloxan today. We talked to two different vets that prescribed different things. We will try the Norfloxan. It can be disheartening in an undeveloped country to get knowledgeable people in general. The flock is doing better today. They are eating and drinking closer to normal and moving around instead of being more inert.

It doesn't look normal.
Chickens don't pee. In fact, I don't think any birds do.
The white substance coating most feces are the urates.

I am under the impression that birds have some urine which is clear, urates which are uric acid waste, and fecal material. The urine becomes increased when chickens are drinking more water, such as in times of hot weather. Here is a good article about droppings in birds: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=15+1829&aid=2973

Have you thought of treating the birds for possible coccidiosis with amprollium or sulfa?

What symtopms are the flock showing? You might wanna check a few for mites and lice, 'cause it looks like many have poor feather coats, and like Eggcessive suggested, treating with amprolium or a sulfa drug might be a better place to start. You might also want to de-worm them. The antibiotic you're about to use is quite powerful and is banned for use in poultry in the US and some other countries.

They have been having a cough like sound and not being able to crow. Today they are doing much better but still have the cough a bit. They were given dewormer earlier.

About the norfloxan... It's banned??? Do you know why? One second vet recommended that. The first vet said to use something they call Oxy 50%. The second vet said the norfloxan is stronger. Have you heard of Oxy? Maybe it is short for something else.

The drugs you recommended. What do those do?

The norfloxan is stronger, probably one of the strongest. It's in the same class of drugs as Baytril and Cipro, but I think it's newer.

If you want more info, google "baytril ban poultry".

Oxy 50% is probably just oxytetracyline, which might be effective, but it might not. Of course no drugs will work if it's a virus.

I use the banned drugs, but I'm not planning on eating mine or selling them to anyone that might eat them.
