In the Brooder
I noticed a large red spot on my rooster back side, originally I thought it was his vent, but it appears to be just below. He’s mating the hens, eating, drinking, and acting fine. Nothing about his behavior has changed at all. It doesn’t have any smell at all, and doesn’t seem to really pain him any. I thought maybe mites, but I check for them and didn’t see any. Pulling back the feathers it felt slightly wet, maybe he’s dealing with diarrhea? I have not seen his droppings specifically, but haven’t seen any diarrhea in the coop. All the hens vents look totally normal also, and none of them have mites. How do I treat this? I saw someone say for vent gleet to use monistat daily for a few days (a week, maybe?) and see if it clears it up. I saw another source say it could be a vitamin deficiency, and to perhaps give him some in his water. If it’s vent gleet, I’d really hate for it to spread to the hens.
