for those who mentioned being curious about how it is worn:

those are just a few ways, you can look up more videos or websites if you want to learn more. hope that helps!

In that case:

I suppose you might want to consider whether you're being teased because of your religion, or if you're simply being teased because you are a teenager and you are surrounded by other teenagers. Teenagers tease each other all the time, and for any reason at all. You just happen to have a more convenient reason to take it personally. I wouldn't be concerned over it, unless it is actually mean, discriminatory, and you're being specifically singled out.

Teenagers tease each other over being too tall or too short or too skinny or too fat or having pimples or having a bad haircut or having the wrong sneakers or a geeky girlfriend/boyfriend or no girlfriend/boyfriend or liking the wrong band or wearing last month's fasion ... not that any of that is right or very nice, but it sort of goes with the age group.

Fitting in, being accepted, being part of the "crowd" are all teenage behaviors ... then you become an adult, and spend the rest of your life trying to stand out and be different.

right...the whole teen thing wasnt metioned in the other posts..if i had known it was teens ..
some teens are just plain old mean! and espically more so to people who have something different about them.
Ara, i'd chalk this up to silly, selfish typical teen teasing...
I know its hard to do, but dont let them get you down...
I have a great book (true story) about a girl who was tormented in school from kids and how it all turned out years later at the high school reunion..
most of the kids/bullies didnt even remember being mean to her...alot of times teens dont even really understand the things they say/do can REALLY affect someone..
i'll send you the book if you want to read it. let me know...

Ara, I still think these people are the ones who's moms burp in public. They'd have better manners otherwise.

All of us get weird questions. Anyone who keeps chickens in suburbia gets weird questions. Everything I've seen posted by Ara has been intellegent and insightful. I think she can probably tell the difference between an honest curiousity and a sniggering, snarky question.

I had a lovely discussion about the B'hai (I think I spelled it wrong) because I asked a nice woman about the necklace she was wearing. If I had been rude and nasty I'm sure her reaction would have been different.

No one should have to be civil to jerks...

Some people are stupid and some are way beyond stupid. I am not educated so I would be way beyond stupid. That being said it would be awful rude to ask such questions and one should just google it. I think sometimes people fear what they cannot understand. I do not have a great understanding of some things and would like to know but in fear of getting bashed I would not ask. I think sometimes it is better to just answer all the stupid questions and educate the people like me. I am from an Island and many here would not understand our ways either. Things change over time and people change. I worked on a lobster boat and people ask questions all the time. They are silly to me but to them they simply wanted to learn to understand. One question I got asked a lot of was what is the difference between a female crab and a male crab. Now that is a silly question to me but I would answer it with a smile and they would be satisfied. People need to listen and not take everything "on the offensive". Truly most people just don't know. I guess I would have got that you take off the head piece but I would have had other questions that I will look for on google. It's nice when people want to learn of such things and maybe if we were to get a better understanding, things would change faster, people would change. I am sorry you got upset. Maybe they were like me just plain ignorant and wanted to know.

Always. Without the internet, we cannot operate our Video Phone, which is why my mom pays to keep my internet up and running. Also there is alot of other things online that are a big plus for deafness. When a Video phone is not available, there is also IP Relay services which is just like the type writer phone, called a TTY or TDD. No one really use the TTY or TDD nowaday, it's all done by the modern technology of the video phone.
Wondering what it is really like? Check it out at www.sorensonvrs.com
I love it! 10x better then the TTY/TDD.
Many times I also scare people when I call them up cuz I use something called a VCO (Voice Carry Over) which is that Im talking to my caller but my caller is taking to a relay operator who then signs what they are saying to me. They ask me how I am hearing them based on the fact that they are unaware that Im using a relay operator.

Someone asked about driving? What does hearing have to do with DRIVING?! NOTHING! I gotta say one thing is...It's safer to be deaf while driving then it is to be hearing! (no OFFENSE! See my point first!) You have less distractions.

Yes, McCord, driving. Makes me

. Also makes me want to ask if stupid is a handicap. The only thing deaf people can't do that hearing people can is HEAR.

teens teasing and you are not happy with silly questions just for their fun

oh, I thought it was more than that.

teens---oh man. what can one say? they were raised in a barn?

you have to come up with a good thing to reply when someone is deliberately making fun of you. you need a "shut down line" to say to make them feel foolish and wrong for teasing.

you need a good reply to say.

I can't think of one that would stop teens in their tracks....hmmm....I am sure someone can come up with a good one liner to reply.
