Is this rubber trough safe?

I have some hand-me-down ones and they dont smell at all, so I suspect everyone else is right that it will wear off. I dont get a lot of ice here, but they are definitely easier to get ice out of than gravity waterers. I just crunch the top layer with my foot haha.
haha. Im a clean freak so if there water isn't clean I literly have to keep cleaning it o me put my foot in it with mud will bother me lol

I have never heard of the tea bag trick to get rid of the smell of plastic/rubber off gassing. I will definitely try it!

Here's my way of using a bowl and not having the chickens flip it over. I found a 10x16x5 rubbermaid food container (like what you would take 3 dozen cookies in for coworkers, if they're lucky). I put the food bowl in the container, and put a couple of fist sized rocks on either side of the bowl. I also put a cup of grit in, and a cup of eggshell/oyster shell. The rocks and the 10x16 size make it very stable. I put the lid on and take it inside at night, so mice aren't attracted to it. The 5" height of the sides keeps most of the scratched up bedding out of it too.
