I have the 2 gallon galvanized waterer, is it safe for newly hatched chicks? I dont want them to drowned or get too wet trying to drink!

I don't like to use my large waterers when they are SO new. I usually wait until they are around 4 weeks old to switch them to a large waterer (about the time they don't seem to want to spend all their time in the coop- when they come and go from their heat lamp - from brooder to ground and back again up the ramp independently.

Until then, I like the mason jar waterers with metal base.

Here's another shot of it:

You can put marbles in the water until the chicks are a little bit older. They can drink, but it keeps them from falling in and drowning.
