My Brahma rooster didn’t start out with too many feathers like others do but I noticed his legs were all red. I keep the coop clean and the roosts clean, but what is happening to my rooster? Is it hormones? I now scaly leg mites look a lot worse than this but maybe this is the start. Any suggestions on how to treat it?

Yes, that's scaly leg mites. You can use Vaseline, Baby oil, Pam spray, A & D ointment, anything safe for skin, and greasy. Apply it a couple times a day, or often enough the legs stay greasy. The idea is to smother the mites. In the meantime, spray, or dust the roost with a poultry spray, or dust. It would be a good idea to treat all of his flockmates too.

Thank you for the reply. I have the Pam spray and vaselin at hand and I will try that, do I need to isolate him? His legs are the only one with symptoms. Does diatomaceous earth work for getting rid of them in the coop. I have a lot of that.
