I noticed some of my roosters had dry, silvery scales. Could it be because of leg mites? Orange's (their names are their leg band color) ankle joints also appear swollen. Is this related to the scales or is it something else?

It may just be dirt stains. The scales appear to be intact.

However, it does no harm to give any chicken you're concerned about a spa treatment. A nice ten minute soak in warm Epsom salt water, dry off, then smooth on some castor oil or Vaseline. That should take care of any incipient mite infestation.

Thank you for the reply! Glad to hear they probably don't have mites. I'll give them a soak just in case.
