8x4, roof slopes down to 6 feet high.

Want a full size shed for deep litter method. But, I don't have time/ability to build it myself.

What do folks think? Good deal for $800 or should I hold out. I could easily add a couple of windows for ventilation and a door and then build a run.

have you tried looking on CLs??? I know that for alot cheaper and very good quality you can find something sometimes bigger!

what size is it???

this is what another byc member is buying for 50.00 off craigslist...and with another mabye 200.00 or so you can make it like you want, but this gives you an idea of whats out there:

This is from Craigslist. It's 8x4 = 32 square feet. The $800 includes delivery, which is worth at least a couple hundred bucks.

I know that it seems like a lot of money, and that's why I'm asking what people here think. I've been checking every day and this is the best I've seen so far.

I could buy a custom built coop, but for that price, the coop would be half the size.

I hear you...

sorry, am on medication per doctors orders and Im loopy today...I mean dont get me wrong I love what you found...and I would probably jump on it if it werent for the price...for me...Im a bargain shopper big time...have to now days with money.

But if you cant build it, have time, etc...thats a great deal. Especially with delivery included. I hope you didnt take it wrong...I was just trying to show you there are more out there. but know what you mean, about not finding anything in the area.

I wanted to take advantage of this deal, but they guy hasnt contacted me back!!!

If I were doing the buying I would want it chicken ready for that amount of money, otherwise, like others have said, it's pretty easy to pick up a garden shed for minimal cost (or free) and remodel it to suit my specifications.

So, no, that wouldn't work for me at that price. It is a beauty, though. Is the seller negotiable with the price?

It's very nice and would work well for chicken house. However, it is a bit steep for the price in my opinion. On the other hand, it is already built and wouldnt take much to make it chicken ready. I think you might be able to find something cheaper. Are you able to build one yourself. It is not nearly as difficult as you might think. I built mine, which you can see on my web site or my BYC page, for about the same price as that. It is 8x8 plus it has an 8x10 pen and a 4x8 pen. I built it for about the same price as that one you are considering. And keep in mind, I had never done any kind of contruction or building before. I just got on the internet, looked into basic shed/home contruction, got some ideas from here and went to town. It really would be more cost effective to build your own I think. Or perhaps you know someone who might help you build it. Like I said, I think it would make a great chicken house but the price is a bit high. Maybe you could put an ad on craiglist in the employment section stating what you want build and then take bids/offers from people willing to do. I bet you could find someone to build something similar for a bit cheaper.

The price seems high to me, but where are you located, the prices for everything might be lower where I live, thus skewing my perception.

For delivery, and the physical labor involved with that, the distance to deliver...that is already in the price, yes?

In the pics it looks sound and very sturdy, i am assuming it doesn't have any stress cracks from moving it, and that the floor is solid, roof too.

If it's worth it to YOU, that's what matters. It is a very, very good start. How much is that start worth to you? if it is worth the 800 then I would say yes. bUt if you are sure you could do better, then I'd say keep looking. If it were me, I'd keep looking. But i am reletively handy, and DH is a contractor, so i know he could do quite a bit.

There is a benefit to this shed, it's already almost finished.

I would look around for something else. I found mine for $50.00 (it's metal not wood) but they work just as good. I have seen several that are free if you come and move them.

8x4 isn't a very large one.

I have a total of $73.25 in one of my coops. Shed $50.00, Poultry netting for the top $23.25 (keeps my cats out), I had some extra fence panels that I used for the enclosure. You can find these free on Craigslist also. My shed is 8x10 and my run is 10x23. If I had to buy the fence panels it would have been a total of about $290.00. I built mine next to my garage so that I would already have one wall.

My other was in the open and it cost me about $150.00 it has a 8x10 coop (it's also a metal shed) and a 13.5x15.5 run.

I say look for all the free stuff you can find.

It is a little high but, it is being delivered which is a great bonus and you will spend good bucks to build it yourself buying the materials. I bought a 6 x 8 sturdy built one with 30 yr shingles off of craigslist recently and I paid $400 but I had to go over 30 miles to load it and move it here. Modifications have been pretty easy so far and I am nearly done.

If you do not have the time to build one yourself, can afford it and it can be delivered to you then I would say go for it. I personally would keep looking around. Pick up windows at garage sales or glass companies, cut ventilation and a pop door, make nest boxes and secure it.
