Hi! We have a brooder full of chicks that hatched on March 30th (we ordered them from Meyer Hatchery)(the only four that * might * be a little older are the four golden comets). All of them seem to be growing quite a bit- except our Frost White Legbar. She doesn’t seem to be growing at the rate that the others are. Honestly she doesn’t seem to be any bigger from the day we got them. She doesn’t show signs of being sick or anything, but she’s just very small. Is this normal for Frost White Legbars?

She is tiny and cute!

Chicks, like people, come in all shapes and sizes, with all types of variances. She could be a runt, she could be a slow grower, she could just be small. One of my Sussex chicks is smaller than the rest, not as small as yours, and I worried the same at first but after watching her eat, drink, sleep, poop, and get along fine with the others...I let it go as she's just smaller :)

It'll be interesting to hear if some of the posters who breed often reply with their experiences, surely they would have seen plenty of these variations!

Is this a picture of them now? or when you first got them? And if it is a NOW picture. How long have you had them in this picture? Is the small one growing real feathers yet? Wonder if it could be mislabeled from hatchery or a bantam?

It is a picture from today. We’ve had them since March 31st. We ordered one day old chicks from Meyer, so they were probably a few days old when we got them. I’ve attached a photo of her feathers (I took the picture just moments ago). I hope she’s not a mislabeled chick though because she was our most expensive bird.

Ok, I definitely see the feathers now. Some of the other birds definitely look like their feather growth is faster in that first picture. I will have to look this breed up, I am not familiar with it. Maybe just keep giving her some special attention to make sure she is eating well. Do you notice the other chicks interacting with her OK?
