Is this style decent?

Isn't it still common practice to use food grade diatomaceous earth to keep coops/chickens mite free?
It is still common practice and there is some evidence that DE does work as a preventative. But, DE will not deal with an infestation and is a respiratory health Hazzard for chickens and humans. My view and the view of many experienced chicken keepers is the hazzards outweigh the dubious benefits
 
Thanks. I had always sprinkled it on the floor of the coop and then put down fresh bedding and provided a dust bin with DE, Wood ash and good old fashioned dirt sand mix.
