I'm planning to buy a 1 yr tom and hen soon.

I don't know what to provide for them --a coop and run?---until they learn this is their new home and will stay here on a new farm and not wander off. THese are Bourbons and can fly out of any fencing.

Should I make a small covered run attached to an old large dog crate, the solid plastic kind with grilled vents on 2 sides? I can't lock them in as the door is gone (broken and recycled long ago) Or should I lock them up and use a different coop?

You need an 8X8 space (4X4 per bird) and it needs to have a chicken wire and a small enclosed fencing area so they don't fly out

So I need an 8x4 floor space for 2 birds; how high??? If it's for short term use, can it be low???

They need a roost so it can't be too short. 6' at the lowest.
