Can Turkey hens spit?

Oh no, I just realized maybe I wasn’t very clear(?) about the spitting and strutting, by displaying I mean strutting, but spitting is not a typo, I mean spit, which is a noise Tom turkeys make whilst displaying/strutting, I realize I should’ve said strutting not displaying, but as an individual who has a hard time telling apart words such as “spitting” and “strutting” right next to eachother I decided to use displaying instead.
Please post a video of this. Spitting is not a noise, it is expectorating saliva usually. I have never seen a turkey actually spit so have no idea what you are talking about.

When a Tom turkey goes into strut, they make a noise that some call a spit and drum. I believe this is what poster is talking about not actually spitting saliva. Sounds like pfffit then vroom, the pffit sound some call spit and the vroom from the feathers ruffling is called drum.

I have never witnessed any of my hens making the spit/pffit sound but have many that strut in dominance. I have had an experience with a wild hen spit and drum and gobbling all the way into my calls while hunting turkeys. She gobbled on the roost flew down spit and drummed while strutting and gobbling all the way to my calls. She was a bearded hen, here in Ohio it is legal to harvest any bearded turkey. While processing this bird, I confirmed she was a hen full of eggs. I still consider her my best turkey trophy and I have taken some very very nice Toms throughout the years.

Yes, I looked it up and I heard it was called a spit? That’s all I could find, I guess I could’ve been more specific.

I’m sorry for the confusion I caused, I didn’t know what the noise was called so I looked it up and everything said “spitting” I just meant the Pfft noise they make when strutting.

They can, I believe. It's the sound of the air being released I think. It's been awhile but some of my hens strutted before laying eggs, and I feel like I remember hearing one of them making the "pfft" noise when flexing, Just no drum after.
