Is this the right kind of sand for bedding for inside the chicken coop???

Hi im going to make the switch to sand for inside the coop i think. right now im using bedding pellets and they are throwing them everywhere. I found this at home depot http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/100318...talogId=10053&productId=100318450&R=100318450 It is a coarse all purpose sand. Is this the correct sand that i should switch to? I read some of the posting and they said to use river sand or construction sand. i called around and no one know what im talking about. any help would be great

I buy the washed and dried play sand. I haven't used the one you showed, but have bought HD's mason sand, and it was WET! I would advise buying only one bag until you see if you like it.

I wanted washed sand since it is supposed to be less dusty (important for our lung health).

We just filled our chicken coop up with that sand today.

Oh bummer. That is what bummed me out on the mason sand. It took DAYS for it to dry out in the coop, with me raking it around. Our play sand is nice and dry here.

Well i think i changed my mind about the sand. We have a chicken tractor and the hen house is 3x5 and when i went to go get the sand i started thinking after looking at how small the bag were(still 50pound bags). we probably would need 4-5 bags of sand to get an inch or two thick and that would be an awful lot of weight to add to a tractor that is heavy as it is. I switched to a finer pine bedding last night. ill see how that works i guess. I was using pine pellets for horses, thinking it would be heavier and they wouldnt be able to fling it everywhere, but they had differnt ideas i guess.

Sand IS very heavy!!!!!! Good plan.
