As an aside to Stinky Acres:
Thank you very, very much for your message of
SAVE BIRDS - KEEP YOUR CATS INDOORS
In my experience as a wildlife rehabber for over 40 years a HUGE majority of the injured or dying wildlife brought to me had a cat somewhere in the story. People's pet cats as a whole kill millions of birds each year - not because they're hungry but because they're just cats doing what cats do. So many people have told me kitty just wanted to "play with" that baby bunny. The puncture wounds though the baby's skull don't say "play" to me. Even if the cat just kills bugs and lizards, those bugs and lizards are a vital part of the diet for the wildlife in your area.
I myself had to go two country blocks away to bang on my neighbor's door because their cat kept coming to my yard and chasing my chickens and terrorizing them which ceased egg productions for days after each incident. I had to threaten them with Animal Control after it got one of my teenagers (chicken, not human). They swore their cat never left their yard but lost that argument when I trapped kitty in my chicken coop, Air Tag and all!
I apologize for getting on a wildlife soapbox in a chicken forum - it's that wildlife rehabber in me who has seen so much death and destruction wrought on wildlife by house cats that I just can't stop myself from trying to educate about wildlife and cats.
Cat lovers, like me with my Peanut & Stinky & Spats, also have to keep in mind that many people don't like or downright hate cats and will not hesitate to shoot them, poison them, trap and shoot them, or run them over. If you love your cat please keep it inside where it is safe and your lap is always available (or your keyboard or that Amazon box that just arrived!).
Once more, I apologize to all for this digression and promise it will never happen again. It's all about the chickens!
