I really haven't seen any wild birds entering the coop. I do keep the door open all day and I have been seeing a lot of bluejays around. Huh, I never even thought of that!!!

I have 27 chicks that are currently 8 weeks old. For the last 4 weeks they go through a 50 lb bag of chick starter every other week. They have a feeder available during daylight hours that is always full. They do get a treat of bread or veggies about every other day or so and they have access to my garden for about an hour near the end of each day. I know they are suplementing their diet with insects as there is now not a single grashhopper or tomato worm in there, and it used to be well infested (no chemical defenses in there - it's survival of the strongest). Don't know if this is normal, but that's what's happening here and the birds are growing like weeds.

I found the culprit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My two year old lab has been making a pig (or chicken) out of herself!!! Thanks for all the help..

wow I thought my chicks were eating alot! I am filling their small feeder twice a day plus their snacks. Hope this is okay I belive I read that chicks won't overeat their not like puppies.

I have 2 pekin ducks and 6 chickens they eat 50 lbs in 6-8 weeks plus I toss out scratch as a treat and they also forage.

Now ya got me thinking. I have 24 chicks (EE, RIR, BR, SLW, NHR) that are 4 weeks old and I go through 50 lbs of starter each week and NO treats. Too much?? They are still in my basement and are the only ones with access to it (24/7). As fast as they are growing I'm not surprised. I have the feeder on blocks but do still have some spillage. For some reason they won't eat it off the ground. Doesn't seem to be much though.
