B/c it sounded a little weird to me.

My husband swears he read somewhere that if two different breeds of ducks mate their offspring will not be able to reproduce. I think he's nuts. Who's right?
 
Both of you are right!....he's just not narrowing it down enough....really if any two domestic breeds mate, their offspring can reproduce.

However, if a muscovy duck breeds with any other breed than muscovy, the offspring will be sterile and neither drake nor duck will be able to reproduce.
 
I knew that the offspring would nto be able to reproduce but can the hen still lay eggs?

I had to ask that very same thing:Dand was told that although they will not be fertile the hen can still lay eggs:)
 
Right, because it would be the same as if you just had females. They're going to lay eggs, anyway.

You've got the same deal going as with mules, most domestic ducks are descended from the mallards, i believe, but the muscovies are different enough genetically to result in a sterile hybrid.
