Is this vent gleet or something else? Looks a little like some other pics I’ve seen here but not completely.

Sorry for gross pictures. She seems fine otherwise. Her vent does have some whitish discharge.

Vent gleet is a fungal infection. It might be helped with the miconazole used orally and topically on the vent. I can‘t see the vent in the pictures, but vent gleet has a bad odor, leakage of urates and poop from the vent, and there may be a loss of feathers and raw skin around the vent. Vent gleet in chickens can be treated with Medistatin (nystatin ) powder available online, or miconazole cream. Some also use acidified copper sulfate in the water. Here are some links to read:

Thank you. I just got back in. I went out to the coop and cleaned her vent. It was enflamed. I added the topical yeast cream pictured above. It didn’t stink horrible. I did not get a picture but it had creamy whitish discharge. She didn’t seem uncomfortable when I was back there.

This is why I try to check all my chickens nightly and I have all these other meds here. I tried to get all I thought I needed before I got chickens. Didn’t see this yesterday at all. Hope I can help her.

So glad they decided to make everything for medicinal purposes over the counter; needing a prescription……..aggrevating.

Update: i went at at 4 this morning and gave her an epsom salt bath. Was able to look at the vent better. It is swollen and not too red. No prolapse from what I can tell. I bathed her for 10 minutes. Tonight I will bathe her again and apply more cream.

I checked her crop and it was empty so not sour crop or crop issues.

She still good today. I went out to check on her when I got home from work. She’s up and around and acting normal. I’m going to do another bath tonight and more of the cream. I was told not to put probiotics in their water every day even though the probiotic I have is meant to be added every day according to the directions. I start putting probiotics in their water two weeks ago. I’m wondering if that loud enough bad stuff to build up. I’ve had no issues with this up to this point and I’ve had them for a year.

She’s out here climbing all over everything like she normally does. As if nothings wrong. Obviously I’m more worried about it than she is. Apparently Mr. Big Mean Marine can’t handle seeing his chicken sick lol

I just use clean water changed daily for my chickens. Some brands of feed already contain some probiotics. I don’t why anyone would say nit to use probiotics, since they can help get the gut bacteria back to normal. There are a lot of “natural” products for chickens, and most do not list their ingredients. I don’t buy anything unless the ingredients are on the label.
