Hi BYC peeps! My 4 girls have been having fun jumping up to reach and eat the new leaves on this vine.
Do you know what it is? I assume it's not poisonous?

When the new leaves started coming out so at least a couple of weeks. They seem completely find. Poop is normal, etc.
If it's been a couple of weeks with no symptoms then it should be fine. Just keep an eye on them for a while. Chickens have strong digestion tracts. They can eat many things we wouldn't think they could. I suggest you do your research on that topic more though. Their are a lot of sites out there that can give you insights as to what's good for them and what isn't

Oh no...although the limited info i found from chicken keepers say it's not poisonous. I found this list that says it is!

Now I have to figure out what to do....

Yes I'd like to do some research but haven't identified the vine name so not sure how to research. Hoping someone here can help ID.
I don't know ow the name of your vine but you may come across it's name by accident if your doing general research like that. Other ways I figure things out is looking up general things like poisonous vines for chickens, or safe vines for chickens. Comparing pics that I find with one's I get and going from there. For yours, I would take a pic of it's leaves, and one of it's stem and do it using those pics.

My chickens ate broken glass from a shattered patio table. Tough buggers.

My two cents is leave it. If you want you could strip it up to a point where they can't reach it.

My yard has both junipers and poke weed and I understand that both of these are poisonous. We've only had one feeding related issue and that was due to some feed that had gone bad. Chickens are smarter than they look and will likely taste the bad things but are unlikely to eat themselves to death as long good food is available as well.

Yeah I'd like to leave.
I found another credible source that says it's NOT poisonous.

Some plants are poisonous in large quantities only (not an issue if the chickens are eating little bits).

Some plants have poisonous parts but other parts are safe (example: potato leaves are poisonous, but the actual potatoes are fine so long as they are not green.)

Some parts are poisonous, but the chickens would not really eat them anyway (example: avocado pits, which are too large for a chicken to swallow and generally cannot be opened or broken up by chickens.)

But many such things end up on "do not feed" lists, even when they are not really a problem. (The authors of those lists seem to use logic like this: "Potato leaves are toxic, and green potatoes are toxic-- so we'll tell people to avoid all potatoes, even though most potatoes available to most people are just fine.")

You would need to be more careful if you intended to grind something up and mix large amounts into the chickens' main food, but when chickens are just allowed access to things and can choose for themselves whether to eat it, they usually do a good job of eating safe things and avoiding problems.
