I was wrong, it is a black locust, finally blew the pic up and seen a thorny stem in the back ground.

I wouldn't worry. My birds have stripped to the roots every toxic plant in my yard.

Ok, is there anything defining you can see? How tall is it? What do the thorns look like? Where are you regionally?
We have new Mexican honey locust, which is a type of black locust.

They grow into large trees. Small thorns like rose thorns when they are young. We are in eastern MA.

If chickens did not know what's safe for them to eat in nature and what isn't, they would be extinct. Don't worry about them. Those leaves may be toxic for you though, so you probably should not eat them. But don't trust their judgment when it comes to styrofoam and hardware.

Chocolate and grapes are toxic to dogs but they won't hurt you, btw.

I've seen my chickens eat poke berries before but never the leaves. The one growing at the foot of my driveway is as tall as it is wide.
