is this weird?

i collect the eggs every night before bed so i know exactly how many they lay - usually an egg each every single day.
we have 7 chickens, tonight i collected 8 eggs!
how unusual is it for a chicken to lay twice in one day?

it doesnt happen all the time, but it does happen.....i got 6 eggs from 5 hens once.

A few weeks ago, I got 7 from my 6 hens. It is still rare though.

well! how bout that, i was totally surprised - the funny thing is we lost one hen, she just vanished, no feathers or blood etc, for a moment i wondered if she'd come back

Is it possible you have a broody that has gone into hiding to raise a clutch, she may pop back up in a couple of weeks if that is the case.

I actually have a broody sitting on eggs, 11 days in. She is only 6 1/2 months old too and a BR. I thought it would be a BO first and a little older.

though i think its around summertime in Australia.......isnt it? more daylight means higher egg production
