Is this what they mean by a "favorite nest box"? :)

Doesn't matter how many boxes I add, I get this almost every day. The killer are the ones who scream and cry to use a box when an empty one is right there. UGH!

The funny thing is i have 6 nest boxes and they choose the two end one but now they can only use one of them becuse a hen settled in one and hatched a egg yesterday now my bantum will hide behind her and lay egg in her nest! Good thing i marked the eggs of it would go from 3 to 15!

It's like they all need to go to the bathroom and they think there is only one useable toilet!

For those of you with young children, there is a great book called, "The Perfect Nest" by Catherine Friend. She is an acquaintance of mine and a wonderful author of other books as well, including "Hit by a Farm". She is very entertaining! You should check it out! Every time I see more than one hen on the pile I think of her book.

My friends Americanas did this... unfortunately they did this while broody. When the chicks started hatching, we moved them down to the bottom of the coop so they could have food and water, including moving the nesting box with them. But they decided to just leave the eggs and 2 chicks that had already hatched. So next time, she and her hubby will use an incubator to hatch them. She also has one Cochin that will go broody on a "stolen" egg. Which is hilarious when the chick that hatches out of the egg is smooth legged and the hen obviously isn't and her roo is also a Cochin.

Is this what I have to look forward to, all 4 of mine will sleep in one corner of the brooder, they are 6 weeks old Delawares & will be going into the coop very soon....
