This hen is about a year and a half old and was acting completely normally until I just went out to lock my chickens up for the night… I thought she was dead because she was laying down and had her neck and head twisted on upside down. However, a quick search of crook neck said that it’s predominately in baby chickens; is it possible that she somehow developed it?

Wry neck (torticolis) is just a neurological symptom, and it can occur in older chickens. It can be a symptom of a head or neck injury, a vitamin B1 (thiamine) or vitamin E deficiency, but also can be a symptom of certain diseases that cause brain inflammation. Those include Mareks disease, exotic Newcastle’s disease, fowl cholera, and others. Most people give vitamins 400 IU of E, some extra thiamine in 1/4 tablet of human vitamin B complex, and a bit of scrambled or boiled egg daily for a week or two to see if it helps. Isolating the chicken in a dog crate with food and water, and helping them to get enough to eat and drink if they cannot get it, may help. Mixing a small bowl of watery chicken feed, egg, and alternating with ground tuna, fish, or canned cat food are some things to use.

Thanks, I’ll try that
