I have 8 week old chickens. This one gives me pause. It developed waddles wayyy before it’s siblings. It’s father is a Barred Rock the mother hen I think, I think is a golden seabright. I’m really nervous that this 8 week old is a male and my somewhat aggressive rooster will kill it. If anyone can tell by these pictures please let me know if more pictures are needed please let me know.

Cockerel.

Cockerel.

How many hens do you have? How big is your setup?
I do not have enough hens. I have made my mind up, the rooster I have is aggressive to all of the humans and the hens. He has been aggressive since we got him and everyone has told me numerous times to send him to freezer camp. This week he has attacked me 3 times plus my 70 yr old father. Freezer camp it is.

Its a hard decision, and never easy. But it is the best all around... for everyone involved.:hugs

Yes, I do feel bad. I have tried so many things to make that bird be nicer, tamer… he did protect the ladies from predators. I’m not sure when to do this, as one hen has not accepted Waddles now officially known as Sir Waddles. She (Buff Orpington) attacks him and will not let him onto roosting bars with the others. My poor little silky (the mom) has been forced to squish into a nesting box with him. Sir Waddles is officially bigger than his mother.

So I figured I would give you guys an update. Waddles’s now known as Sir Waddles has turned out to be a very amazing looking little rooster. He’s still growing. He’s still working on his chicken dance. He is working on his daddy’s crow (thankfully because the golden seabright crow..meh). I’m very pleased we kept him (so far..I still have nightmares from old rooster). I’ve attached pictures. Enjoy :)
