it is a great program to be in!

Mine aren't. I don't breed or show. If I did, they would be. They came from an NPIP certified flock, though.

It's a good program, but I just wish the State would test for diseases that are more of a current threat like AI or MG.
Still, I'll keep my certification up because I do show and sell.

I got my flock tested and certified to sell chicks and hatching eggs through the mail. I mainly did it for piece of mind. I'm still learning about this program but I have heard and seen good things so far!

I did it recently. For me, the best part was getting to know the tester. He was great and a wealth of great info.

NPIP is a gov't program created in order to protect the food supply, not to certify backyard flocks as healthy, which it does not. I wish folks wouldn't think it's more than it is, but there is a huge misconception about this program-some believe that it means someone who is NPIP has no disease in their flock. That couldn't be further from the truth. It tests mainly for two diseases that are not common anymore, and in some states, Avian Influenza, and if you pay extra they may test for Mycoplasmosis, but I think the MG test has to be several times per year, not just annually. I am not NPIP nor do I plan to be, though plans could change, certainly.
