Is Your Local Post Office Closing?

A lot have been devastated to hear the news, especially for loyal customers who could lose their favorite post office. The United States Postal service has been plagued with monetary problems for many years, and the last few were especially bad. The USPS is considering turning almost 3,000 post offices private, as it is investigating brand-new business models in order to decrease damages. I found this here: 10 percent of all post offices could become private retail mail.

My hubby just told me yesterday that a few local ones will be closing around here as well. Hoping ours doesn't or I have to drive 1/2 hour away to get to one

I'm really surprised that some of the very rural areas around here are not losing their PO, unless they decide to put them on the list after review. Fortunately, we have 2 PO's within a 10-15 minute drive of us and both are the most used in our county.

yes but they can't make up their minds!!

First they were moving it to Buffalo then they weren't going to move it at all and now they are moving it to Pleasant Hope! They were going to move Pleasant Hope but decided that it was actually going to cost more to do that lol. They don't know what they are going to do. They told Long Lane that they were closing it way back in November but yet it is still open. The actual PO will remain open for 2 years, but the routes will be at another PO.

My mom works for the postal service as a rural mail carrier and she gets to keep her route and everything- she just has to drive 7 extra miles to work when they move to Pleasant Hope. Silly if you ask me b/c they have to pay her extra mileage. But they do get to keep their senority so if a bigger route opens up mom might have a chance at it if she wants it. My mom is glad they chose Pleasant Hope over Buffalo b/c that is where she grew up and she knows most of the roads and a lot of people there.

Mom has been working for them for 22 years. My dad retired after 30 years in Dec of '08.
