ISA Brown health issues and gentics

Hey everyone,

I had 5 ISA brown hens and one of them died last Saturday from laying eggs internally the condition called Peritontis.

She was older hen almost 3 years old. She would sit upright penguin style and close her eyes a lot.

I have a hen that is a cross between the ISA brown hen that died and a barred rock rooster.

She is young only 7 months old and showing the same symptoms as her deceased mother lays upright a lot/shuts her eyes.

Is it a bad idea to cross ISA browns with other chickens?

Could my young ISA Brown/Barred Rock cross hen inherited Periontis from her mother?

Or could I be off and she just has worms or another illness?

Peritonitis itself is not an inherited condition. The internal laying can be but often related to other things. You may want to consult a vet. Read the link and it is treatable and can save the hen if the same condition exists and you seek medical advice and attention.
