It's not a sign that shes about to start, it's a sign that she is. Make sure shes either of layer feed or has oyster shell for calcium. When they first start laying things can be a little wonky. My new layer has had a soft shell. I also went our to 2 eggs broken so I now have 2 layers who are for some reason laying while they roost.
Oh wow! Thanks. As for calcium, we have had oyster shells out for the two older 18mo old hens I got off Craigslist. One of those was dropping eggs with no shell or not laying at all (perhaps new coop stress). So I gave her yogurt with Vitamin D mixed in. Worked like a charm and we started getting eggs. Recently - in the last week - have let everyone have the yogurt.
Maybe just wait and see. Hopefully the two older hens who are laying set an example for the younger gals to get in the nesting box.
Cheers!
